GHalib is well-known for his philosophical Shers. But it wasn't his monopoly. Others also managed it quite admirably. Here is one from GHalib's contemporary Shayar, Jauk.
hayaat = life/birth
Kazaa = death
hayaat = life/birth
Kazaa = death
laayi hayaat aaye, Kazaa le chali, chale
na apani KHushi aaye, na apani KHushi chale
- Jauk
The striking simplicity of this Sher was a hallmark of Jauk's poetry.
- Abhay.
ASAD _also_ stands for "A Sher A Day" !
